A Christmas light trail is one of the easiest festive days out to plan: book a timed slot, wrap up warm and walk through gardens lit up after dark. The best way to do it is to pair the trail with a Christmas market nearby. Spend the afternoon eating and shopping at the market, then arrive at the trail as it gets dark. Below are the six biggest UK Christmas light trails for 2026, each with the market we'd pair it with.

Pair it with: Brighton Christmas Market at Victoria Gardens (15 Nov - 24 Dec, open until late). Wakehurst is about 30 minutes from Brighton, so you can do the market by day and Glow Wild at dusk.

Tips for visiting a Christmas light trail

  • Book early. All six use timed or pre-booked entry, and December weekends sell out first.
  • Go midweek or after Christmas. Five of the six run into January, when slots are much easier to get.
  • Eat before you go. Trails have food stops, but eating at the paired Christmas market first is usually cheaper and has more choice. Browse market menus before you travel.
  • Dress for standing still. You'll be outside for 1-2 hours after dark, so bring layers, a hat and waterproof shoes.
  • Check the extras. Kew has adult-only nights, Glow Wild and Longleat have relaxed/sensory sessions, and Blenheim has dog-friendly dates.
