Weekends are when London's food markets really come alive. Some only trade on a Saturday or a Sunday, and even the ones that open all week save their biggest line-up for the weekend.
This guide covers the best weekend food markets in London, with the day to go, opening times and the stalls worth queuing for. Every market links to its page on Food Marketplace, where you can see the full trader list, hours and directions.
Quick tip: go early. Most weekend markets are calmest in the first hour, and the best stalls can sell out by mid-afternoon.

Portobello Road and Golborne Road, Notting Hill
Open daily, 8am to 7pm. Friday and Saturday are the big food days.
Portobello Road Market is world-famous for antiques, but it's a great place to eat too. On Fridays and Saturdays the specialist food stalls and hot food stalls come out, and Golborne Road at the top adds North African and Caribbean street food.

What to eat: falafel wraps from Falafel Point on Portobello Road, and bao from BAO Kusina at the Acklam Village food market under the Westway at weekends.
Duke of York Square Food Market, Chelsea
Saturdays only, 11am to 4pm.
Every Saturday, Duke of York Square off the King's Road becomes an open-air food market next to the Saatchi Gallery. Expect independent producers, bakers, cheeses, global street food and plenty of sweet treats. It's a lovely Saturday lunch stop if you're shopping on the King's Road.

Greenwich Peninsula Market, North Greenwich
Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 6pm.
Greenwich Peninsula Market sets up on Peninsula Square, right outside North Greenwich station by The O2. It's run by the Real Food Festival team and mixes street food and artisan producers with designer-makers and original art, so it's a good pick before a show at The O2.

The market has closed over winter in past years, so check its page before you travel in the colder months.
The Food Market Chiswick
Sundays only, 10am to 2pm.
If you'd rather shop than graze, The Food Market Chiswick at Dukes Meadows is one of west London's best farmers' markets. It's a social enterprise, and around 25 producers come every week, rain or shine.

Who to visit:
- Astons Bakery: organic bread baked on the stone floor of a deck oven.
- Big Wheel Cheese: British cheeses from small makers.
- Bray Cured: British charcuterie from rare breed meats.
- Ringden Farm: English apple juice and seasonal fruit.
- Sotomayor & Son: Spanish home cooking for an early lunch.

Deptford Market Yard
Arches open daily, plus fortnightly weekend markets from 10am to 4pm.
Right next to Deptford station, Deptford Market Yard fills a row of restored Victorian railway arches with independent food and drink, all with ties to south-east London. Weekends are the best time to go, when the extra markets are on and Deptford High Street's street market runs alongside.

What to eat: jerk chicken from Jerk Yard, a Nigerian breakfast from TT's Breakfast, smash burgers from Gobsmack'd or sourdough pizza at Salt.
Vinegar Yard, London Bridge (Saturday night)
Saturday from noon to 11pm. Closed Sunday.
Want to carry on into the evening? Vinegar Yard, next to London Bridge station, is a big street food and drinks yard that's heated and covered in winter. Order from your table by QR code.

What to eat: burgers from Nanny Bill's, Japanese fried chicken sandos from Japanese Chicken Shop, tacos from Taco Collective or pizza from Bad Boy Pizza Society.
How to plan a weekend market day
- Pair markets that are close together. Borough and Vinegar Yard are a few minutes apart, so you can do lunch at Borough and drinks at Vinegar Yard on a Saturday.
- Saturday: Portobello in the morning, then Duke of York Square for lunch, or Borough by day and Vinegar Yard at night.
- Sunday: Chiswick for your weekly shop, or Brick Lane for a long street food lunch.
- Bring a bag. At farmers' markets like Chiswick you'll want somewhere to put your bread and veg.
- Card is fine. Nearly every stall takes card and contactless.
